Linus Torvalds didn't have much money and needed access to the internet so he wrote something to get himself online and posted it on the net - and everybody else chipped in. Miraculous growth and incredible that it should work well with so little central direction.
Richard Stallman loved the hacker community and lost it when proprietary software came in, so he decided to recreate it for his own enjoyment and pleasure. Which reminds me that Linus always seems to say that it's all just for the fun of it.
God put the two of them together in a way. Both are atheists or God-haters (in Richard's case). Or so they say. Richard is Jewish so probably isn't really.
I found a university textbook on operating systems. The chapter on Linux began with the words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 10 v 8: Freely you have received, freely give.
Without a vision the people perish. They had a vision and worked at it day and night without sleep often until they saw the fruition. Amazing what they did and I think God was in it.
Yes there is much for Christians to learn from the Open Source movement.
